3-4 Defensive Formation

A 3-4 defense gets its name based on the personnel that is on the field.
The first number will tell us how many defensive linemen are in the formation. Because it is a 3-4 formation, there will be three down linemen in the formation
The second number will tell us how many linebackers are in the formation. Because it is a 3-4 defense, there will be four linebackers in the formation.
Since there are 11 players on the field at one time, that means the remaining four players will be the defensive backs.
