Nickel Defensive Formation
Feb 08, 2024Nickel formation is similar to the 4-3 defense but with a twist.
In a 4-3 defense there are four down linemen and three linebackers.
In a nickel formation, you sub in the defensive back for a linebacker (traditionally the will or weakside linebacker).
This would put four D linemen, Two linebackers, and five defensive backs on the field.
This formation is great against defending them pass with four linemen bringing pressure and 5 DBs dropping back into coverage.
