Single Back Formation
Feb 06, 2024Single back is a base formation where there is only one running back (typically half back) lined up in the backfield with the QB.
In this formation, the quarterback is under center, the running back is lined up 5 - 7 yards behind the QB.
You will also have five offensive linemen and four receivers in this formation. The receivers can vary between wide receivers and tight ends.
Example:
In this picture, we have 2 wide receivers and 2 tight ends. You can also have 3 wide receivers and 1 tight end or 3 tight ends and 1 wide receiver.
